In March 2008 I began Finding Pennies. In December 2008 I began sharing these "Penny Tales" with a few close friends. They encouraged me to blog the Penny Tales such that more people could enjoy the Adventures with Penny Angels.

Surgery Recovery

This morning I had neck surgery.  Now in Recovery Mode.

One of you Penny Pals had the audacity this evening to email, “So how many coins did you find today?”    Grrrrr…..  I was kinda busy in a hospital bed and operating room!!!   This morning the alarm went off at 3:30 a.m. in order to be at the hospital for a 5:30 check in.  So when I got home around noon, the first thing I did was to have some soup and bread for lunch, then four hours of sleep.

Back to the Penny Finding.  Around 6 p.m. Doc and I headed out for some Penny Finding Therapy, his 10,000 steps for today, and a take home dinner (no dishes tonight!)

I was chatting with the Angels:  “Just 5-6 coins tonight would be okay with me.  That should satisfy those pushy Penny Pals!”   LOL

We found 14 pennies and a dime at the car wash.  That is more than a Coin Mine! (12 coins in one location).  That is more than I asked for.   (Who says you can’t find coins in the dark?  (That is what flashlights are for.)

Then while I was ordering our dinner, Doc walked to get his steps.  Coins at the grocery store: 2P, 2N, 2D, 1Q.    That is almost TWO Hits for the Cycle!  (A H.F.C. = one coin each of penny, nickel, dime, quarter).

Doc found one more penny on his walk.  So a total of 23 coins for today: 17P, 2N, 3D, Q.

That is some pretty awesome Coin Finding Therapy!!!!     Divine forces are always out there ready to assist.  Perhaps next I should ask for assistance on the actual healing of the wounds?   LOL

Christmas Eve Coins

WOW!  Has it really been EIGHT months since I wrote the last Penny Tale?  It’s not that we haven’t found coins, I just haven’t made writing a priority.  It takes hours to post each Tale.

Back to today’s story….

It’s Christmas Eve, so I wondered what fun thing Doc and I could do.  In October, November, and December, Doc and I were somewhat busy.  We travelled to Idaho for two weeks to attend two funerals, then we both suffered through a case of COVID, then we dealt with my mom in the hospital, then I was down and out for a few weeks with oral surgery.  So it was time to do something FUN!!!!

I suggested to Doc that we go Penny Finding!  It has rained 6 inches here in the past 36 hours, so that seemed like somewhat of a ludicrous idea.  But heck, the local car wash would be closed today, so a great opportunity to search there.

At the car wash Doc and I both scoured the prep/vacuum area.  Not a single coin was found there.  How very disappointing.  Thus the dialogue began with the Penny Angels: “Hi Angels.  Wanna play today?  How about at least God’s 2¢ Worth as a minimum?”  Instantly I was shown a penny, then another, then another…   Doc pointed out a few coins as well.  In a matter of minutes we collected 27 Pennies, 2 Nickels and a Quarter as well as a little heart with gems in it!  Perhaps a reminder that God delivers the desires of our Heart?

Of course after laughing a bunch, I gave Thanks for the gifts and the playtime together.  But then I could not resist being a bit sassy.  “So Angels, you delivered far more than I was expecting.  Do you want another challenge?  In order to have a Hit For the Cycle you would need to deliver a dime.  Are you up for it?”

Next Doc and I went to the UPS store to mail a package.  Upon leaving Doc said “Let’s go next door to the grocery store to GET that Dime”.  Note that he did not say to “SEARCH FOR a dime.”  He said to “GET THAT DIME”.  We walked into the store and within a few seconds I spotted a bright shiny dime in the aisle right in front of me!   That was the ONLY coin we found in that store.

2020 Last Hurrah

To say that Penny Finding has been affected by the pandemic is an understatement.

·       There are Stay at Home edicts, so Doc and I have not been going out as much.

·       Other people are staying home, so there aren’t as many wayward coins

·       People are using plastic instead of coins for their purchases

·       There is a national coin shortage

This evening (New Year's Eve) Doc and I went to the grocery store for a few items.  I was not EVEN thinking of Penny Finding.  As we were checking out, I spotted a dime, then a nickel.  Then Doc spotted a dime.  Uggg … A sudden case of Penny Fever hit us.  It came on so totally unexpected!

Doc and I noticed the coffee shop had closed early for the night.  That left the drive up window vacant…  Score!  There was a quarter there!  So now we had nickel, dime (2) and quarter.  That makes three of the coins needed for a Hit for the Cycle.

Doc and I hopped in the car and began driving home.  Then we realized Doc still needed more steps to reach his 12,000 goal for the day.  Tina: “Doc, park the car.  Let’s do your steps here in the parking lot.”  We walked and walked, but found no pennies.  So I got a bit sassy with the Penny Angels.

Tina speaking out loud while walking: “Hi there Angels!  It’s been a while since we have played together.  It is generous of you to provide four silver coins tonight, but this is PENNY Tales, so I am requesting a PENNY Please.  So far we have 3 of the 4 coins needed for a Hit for the Cycle (HFC).  The last HFC was way back in September!  It would make for a great conclusion to 2020 to complete a HFC.  Please consider my request”.  Within moments there was a Penny in my path.  COINcidence?

"Distance" Coins

A few of you have expressed your concerns over Doc and I heading out into public for merely a daily PENNY.  COVID-19 restrictions are now to shelter at home (except for essential trips) and avoid contact with people.  “Social Distancing” is the new buzz term.  Yesterday I forwarded your concerns to the Universe, today it answered.

There was a break in the rain today, so Doc and I did some fence painting.  Actually Doc had been scheduled for a prostate biopsy this morning, but the doctor called to say it did not make "cents" for Doc to come into the medical center - stay away right now.

As our reward for those three hours of work, Doc and I went out for a drive.  We figured that staying inside our car would equate to “social distancing”.

At the stoplight at the end of our street, there were no cars or people visible in ANY direction.  It was a very deserted intersection in a residential area. I looked out my passenger window and there was a nickel shining brilliantly in the sun!  (Nickels are the most difficult to find).  WHY would it be THERE?  Since there were zero cars or people, it was “safe” to hop out and fetch that “distance” coin.   “THANK YOU Penny Angels – that was thoughtful and creative of you”.

Jordan's Quarter
Next Doc and I went to the Verizon Store because Doc's phone was not behaving properly.  Jordan was the only employee working and there were no other customers in the store.  Jordan was evaluating Doc’s phone (with gloved hands and a face mask) and standing over a quarter!  Finally I could bear it no longer… “Jordan would you kindly move a few steps away so that I might move forward and rescue that poor quarter you are trampling?”  We had a good laugh at that.  He moved aside and said, “There’s a dime right over there as well!”  So I retrieved the dime while sharing a few Penny Tales with Jordan.  Doc and I found an additional four pennies while going back to the van.  That means a Hit for the Cycle today!  Pretty impressive Angels.  LOL

Today’s Lesson:  There are forces all around us who are here to help – and they are not susceptible to COVID-19!   LOL

Day #400

Let’s Celebrate!  400 Consecutive Days of Penny Finding.  Some pretty interesting finds these past few months.  So many COINcidences.

Today I had two pennies, a dime and a quarter in hand from running errands this morning.  I thought I was done for the day.  At 8 p.m. Doc suggested getting a quick pizza and salad at a place just down the street.  While there, the Penny Angels provided one coin --- a Nickel!

Hit for the Cycle to Celebrate Day #400.  Life is Good.

Working at a big all-day event tomorrow and not likely to have a chance to go Penny Finding.
Making a run to FedEx office at Midnight tonight.  Hoping to find a coin after 12:01 so that it counts for tomorrow.

New HFC Record

My nieces are here for a two-night sleepover.  We have about 34 waking hours to conquer everything on our “to do” lists.  When Ashley (age 14) was asked what SHE would like to do, her reply was, ”Whatever”.  Jamie (age 11) was determined to do two things FOR SURE – go to Rockin’ Jump trampoline park and go Penny Finding!

Uncle Doc and I picked up the girls yesterday precisely at 10 a.m.  One of the first stops was a sentimental visit to Chuck E Cheese’s where we used to take them when they were young.  Next a stop at Sprouts where each girl was given $10 to buy some snacks for the rest of the trip, then they “checked in” at the Penny Palace.  Uncle Doc took a nap, then it was off to 2+ hours at the trampoline park.  Don’t know how they could do some of those maneuvers – and to do it for hours!

Of course the girls were starving after all that exercise, so dinner was next, followed by the movie Anne of Green Gables.

A pretty nice haul yesterday:  9P, 3N, 4D, 5Q and 16 Chuck E Cheese tokens (worth 25¢ each).
That made three Hits for the Cycle on Day #1.

Hit for the Cycle = Penny, Nickel, Dime, Quarter

This is Day #2 of our adventure.  Jamie asked what my record was for Hits for a Cycle in ONE day.  I told her “four”.  She said she was going to beat that today!

We went coin searching in the morning.  Found coins at the grocery store, car wash, 7-11, etc.  A total of 15 P, 4 N, 6 D, and 7 Q!   WOW!  That made FOUR Hits for the cycle.

This afternoon we did the Big City Scavenger Hunt in Riverside.  That was a neat experience.  We were looking for clues and for coins.

Jamie noted how we had enough pennies, dimes and quarters, but really needed some nickels.  I replied “Take a look at the sidewalks and gutters where people are hopping on and off buses.  Sure enough within 60 seconds we had a nickel in hand!  Manifesting at its finest!

This afternoon we collected 8 P, 1 N, and 2D.

That set a new record of FIVE Hits for the Cycle in One Day. (Just two more nickels would have made it seven HFC).

EIGHT Hits for the Cycle in two days!  Pretty Exciting!

No Place Like Home

As Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz would say: “There’s No Place Like Home,” and today I would add: “We are NOT in Canada any more”.

Doc and I recently spent three weeks in Canada.  Sure the food was great, there were numerous fun experience, and the scenery in the Rockies was incredible!  But as far as Penny Finding, the Canada terrain was BLEAK!  Canada discontinued pennies many years ago, plus most establishments now take cards versus cash.  Thus, wayward coins are quite rare.  It was a real challenge to find even one coin each day.

On average days Doc and I find 2-10 coins as we are conducting our normal activities.  I just found 38 coins at my only stop today. It’s exciting when a Coin Mine is found (12+ coins at one location).  So today the equivalent of three Coin Mines were found in that one spot.  Also on last Saturday 7/7,  I found 38 coins in a single stop.  Each of those days there was one quarter, three nickels, several dimes and LOTS of PENNIES!    LOL   That also means a Hit for the Cycle (P, N, D, Q) each of those days.

This sure beats the Coin Finding in Canada.
It’s good to be home!
