Background

In March 2008 I began Finding Pennies. In December 2008 I began sharing these "Penny Tales" with a few close friends. They encouraged me to blog the Penny Tales such that more people could enjoy the Adventures with Penny Angels.

In Abundance

This morning Doc and I went to several places – Starbucks, the grocery store, a gas station, a friend’s office, a walk through downtown Glendora, a restaurant and more.  Not a single coin was found.

At lunch the friend (D.O.) with whom we were dining, playfully/sarcastically said “Tina just has to ask and the Angels deliver coins for her”.  I thought that statement was a bit exaggerated.

Later this afternoon I needed to mail something at the local UPS store.  Tom, the owner is super nice and almost always asks me first thing, “how many coins have you found so far today?”  I KNEW he would ask today.  I could not say “Zero!”

There was a grocery store between where I parked and the UPS store.  I started talking to the Angels.  “Look I just need ONE penny to show Tom when I walk in there.  Would you please consider providing one in the next 2-3 minutes?”

I walked a few feet into the grocery store and noticed a few coins in the change return slot of a vending machine.  I grabbed the coins and continued walking.  “THANK YOU ANGELS”. That will do!

I kept my hand closed until I reached the UPS store where Tom and I could be surprised together.  Let’s see…  There are 11 pennies, 3 nickels, 9 dimes, and 5 quarters.  That makes 28 coins, for $2.41.  And there are THREE Hits for the Cycle in that pile!

The Angels delivered – in Abundance!

Sassing Tom

This morning my first stop was at the UPS store to ship two packages on behalf of our Aussie guests.  When I walked in, Tom, the Owner teasingly said, “Hello. Have you found your penny today?”  I told him No - his was the first place I had visited.

I emerged from the UPS store and immediately began a conversation with the Penny Angels.  “Hey Angels.  Tom needs a dose of sassing right back.  Could you show me a coin between here and my truck?  Preferably something which will be noteworthy.”

Within a few feet, Doc found a Quarter!  That is 25 times a penny!  I was tempted to go right back into the store, but knew that Tom would say something sassy such as “That is a quarter NOT a Penny!  I thought you do PENNY Finding?”  So I proceeded into the grocery store.

I spent maybe all of 60 seconds inside the grocery store and emerged with a handful of coins! (Someone had left them in the return of the coin counting machine).  There were:  4 Quarters, 6 Nickels, 3 Dimes and 13 Pennies.  WOWWW!!!  That qualifies as THREE hits for the cycle as well as a Coin Mine!

I hurried back to show Tom how the Angels had responded to his sassing.  We were all laughing.

Such good fun!

April Data

Recently the Penny Finding has been a little quieter due to the Sasha Project.  Yet, nearly every day when I leave the house, I find a coin.  And Doc has been finding an unusually high number of quarters.

The fun times with the Penny Angels continue.  For instance:  Last Sunday.  While Doc was getting his Starbucks coffee, I walked around the parking lot.  I began a Sing Song “Hey Penny Angels won’t you come out to play? Come out to play? Come out to play…”  Within one minute I had a Penny!  When telling Doc the story, I said, “I’m surprised the Angels provided me with a penny so quickly instead of putting in earplugs and not listening to my awful singing!”  Doc’s response, “Are you kidding?  They wanted to provide you that coin ASAP so that you would keep quiet and not sing or pester them for the rest of the day!”

Shortly thereafter I found a dime and a nickel.  Of course I was saying “Angels, we just need a quarter for that “Hit for the Cycle. It has been a while …”

We next stopped at a grocery store.  I took a phone call just as we arrived, so I walked and talked in the parking lot while Doc did the shopping.  My conversation with W was getting a bit ‘lively’ when I spotted a penny!  I told him I was reaching to retrieve the coin, when I spotted a second, then a third!  I reassured W it was a sign that the Angels were with him.

On the way home, Doc turned off the main road. I was not expecting that.  It was merely to get fuel. While Doc was pumping petrol, I was searching.  Didn’t see any coins in the usual areas.  Then, just as I was about to quit, I spotted the quarter!  It was standing vertically against a light-colored concrete curb off to the side.  That made a Hit for the Cycle!

Lesson: When the answers aren’t obvious or just laying in front of you as you expect (or want them to be), take a look around.  They may be right beside you and a little more subtle.

For You Data Nerds … for a few months I did not log the Finds.  (I was tired of doing that for several years).  Could not handle the lack of data.  Tracking again.

April Coin Count:   59 Coins            P(35), N(4), D(9), Q(11) = $4.20

Happy Ripples

The Penny Finds and Happy Ripples continue almost daily.

Last week I asked the Angels to lead me to a new hair salon that would be reasonably priced, provide a comfortable and serene setting, with a talented and pleasant stylist.  Today that request was fulfilled even better than I could have hoped for!  WHY do I continue to be surprised by that?  Every day I have to remind myself to ASK in all things. There are invisible forces which help us with exams, find parking spaces, devise the right solution, etc.  Keep Asking for Assistance.  The forces on the other side have vision far beyond our limited sight and understanding.  Sometimes the help or answers they provide are absolutely mind-boggling (and even hilarious at times).

OK.  Back to my story … When I retired, I vowed to get a hair cut at least twice a year.  So today I went “under the scissors”. Jennifer was wonderful!  As she cut, I chatted about Penny Tales, the Penny Palace and COINcidences.  I even told her about my “Sasha Project”.  She said she would like to meet him and offered a free haircut when he visits from Russia.  Happy Ripples!

Jennifer also seemed to enjoy our time together.  As a working college student, she was feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the things currently on her plate.  She said as a result of our time together, pennies would now be a happy ‘trigger’ for her.  As I left the salon, I challenged the Angels: “Please deliver a penny before I get to my truck so I can show Jennifer how this really works!  I am not just a crazy old lady!”  Of course, I found a penny.  It was covered in dirt, but that doesn’t diminish it’s value.  I took the penny back to Jennifer.  Shared Happy Ripples!.

Also a dime at Lowe’s this morning plus two pennies and a dime at the car wash.
