In March 2008 I began Finding Pennies. In December 2008 I began sharing these "Penny Tales" with a few close friends. They encouraged me to blog the Penny Tales such that more people could enjoy the Adventures with Penny Angels.

Surgery Recovery

This morning I had neck surgery.  Now in Recovery Mode.

One of you Penny Pals had the audacity this evening to email, “So how many coins did you find today?”    Grrrrr…..  I was kinda busy in a hospital bed and operating room!!!   This morning the alarm went off at 3:30 a.m. in order to be at the hospital for a 5:30 check in.  So when I got home around noon, the first thing I did was to have some soup and bread for lunch, then four hours of sleep.

Back to the Penny Finding.  Around 6 p.m. Doc and I headed out for some Penny Finding Therapy, his 10,000 steps for today, and a take home dinner (no dishes tonight!)

I was chatting with the Angels:  “Just 5-6 coins tonight would be okay with me.  That should satisfy those pushy Penny Pals!”   LOL

We found 14 pennies and a dime at the car wash.  That is more than a Coin Mine! (12 coins in one location).  That is more than I asked for.   (Who says you can’t find coins in the dark?  (That is what flashlights are for.)

Then while I was ordering our dinner, Doc walked to get his steps.  Coins at the grocery store: 2P, 2N, 2D, 1Q.    That is almost TWO Hits for the Cycle!  (A H.F.C. = one coin each of penny, nickel, dime, quarter).

Doc found one more penny on his walk.  So a total of 23 coins for today: 17P, 2N, 3D, Q.

That is some pretty awesome Coin Finding Therapy!!!!     Divine forces are always out there ready to assist.  Perhaps next I should ask for assistance on the actual healing of the wounds?   LOL

Christmas Eve Coins

WOW!  Has it really been EIGHT months since I wrote the last Penny Tale?  It’s not that we haven’t found coins, I just haven’t made writing a priority.  It takes hours to post each Tale.

Back to today’s story….

It’s Christmas Eve, so I wondered what fun thing Doc and I could do.  In October, November, and December, Doc and I were somewhat busy.  We travelled to Idaho for two weeks to attend two funerals, then we both suffered through a case of COVID, then we dealt with my mom in the hospital, then I was down and out for a few weeks with oral surgery.  So it was time to do something FUN!!!!

I suggested to Doc that we go Penny Finding!  It has rained 6 inches here in the past 36 hours, so that seemed like somewhat of a ludicrous idea.  But heck, the local car wash would be closed today, so a great opportunity to search there.

At the car wash Doc and I both scoured the prep/vacuum area.  Not a single coin was found there.  How very disappointing.  Thus the dialogue began with the Penny Angels: “Hi Angels.  Wanna play today?  How about at least God’s 2¢ Worth as a minimum?”  Instantly I was shown a penny, then another, then another…   Doc pointed out a few coins as well.  In a matter of minutes we collected 27 Pennies, 2 Nickels and a Quarter as well as a little heart with gems in it!  Perhaps a reminder that God delivers the desires of our Heart?

Of course after laughing a bunch, I gave Thanks for the gifts and the playtime together.  But then I could not resist being a bit sassy.  “So Angels, you delivered far more than I was expecting.  Do you want another challenge?  In order to have a Hit For the Cycle you would need to deliver a dime.  Are you up for it?”

Next Doc and I went to the UPS store to mail a package.  Upon leaving Doc said “Let’s go next door to the grocery store to GET that Dime”.  Note that he did not say to “SEARCH FOR a dime.”  He said to “GET THAT DIME”.  We walked into the store and within a few seconds I spotted a bright shiny dime in the aisle right in front of me!   That was the ONLY coin we found in that store.

2020 Data and Magnifi-CENT

 Hi Penny Pals –

2020 was definitely a challenging year for Penny Finding.  As you’ll recall, at Consecutive Day #1000 (April 8) Doc and I decided it was safer to follow the Stay at Home edict than to go out Penny Finding.  Our son (the medical doctor) kept scolding us about leaving the house.  Currently the evening news is reporting that in Los Angeles County a person is dying of COVID-19 every 5 minutes.

**********

Here is a summary of the 2020 data.  Doc and I found:

967 Pennies, 64 Nickels, 229 Dimes and 72 Quarters plus some other currency.  There were 1333 basic U.S. coins.  (That’s about half of our previous year findings).  The value of the U.S. currency totaled $56.75

There were only 15 Hits for the Cycle.

Since I first threw out the Penny Challenge to the Universe in December of 2008, I have found more than 33,000 coins and currency worth over $1,500.

**********

The number of coins found in 2020 was much lower than in previous years. I was lamenting that fact to the Penny Angels. Condensed Discussion:

“Hi Penny Angels.  2020 year was kind of a bummer as far as Penny Finding.  And it doesn’t appear that 2021 is going to be much better.  People are sheltering at home, using their plastic cards to purchase things, and there is a national coin shortage.  This Penny Finding is becoming more and more difficult.”

It seems that Penny Angels (Divine Beings) have a “Cents” of Humour and are with us despite COVID-19 and other factors.  They proved that in the two days after I had that discussion with them.

Saturday Doc and I stopped for a hamburger.  As we approached the drive up window, I spotted a penny, then another and another …  In those few minutes, Doc acquired his burger and I had acquired 19 coins (15 Pennies, 4 Dimes).

That was pretty reassuring that the Angels were still out there.

Then the next day Doc and I stopped to admire a block planter which was being built at a local residence.  Keep in mind this was a residential neighborhood – to find ONE penny in that environment would have been amazing.  Doc said “Hey is that a coin in the street?”  I went to pick it up.  I spotted another penny, then another, then another … There were 65 pennies scattered about!!!

The Penny Angels made quite a Magnifi-CENT statement with THAT find.

Yes, there are Forces around us to help us deal with this pandemic and other challenges were are facing… plus even a little bit of fun here and there.

Day #978

Are you tired of hearing about the COVID-19 Virus?  This has surely emphasized how we are ALL connected to each other!

It is a good thing that Penny Angels are NOT affected by this virus.  They are continuing to do their job.  Two days ago they provided 20 coins; yesterday 6 coins; today 16 coins.  Found 12 (a coin mine in my hand) at just one grocery store.  Right now, coins are much easier to find than Toilet Paper!  (Note the barren shelves of paper goods behind me in Photo 1).

Here is Doc at the meat counter saying “Where’s the Meat?”  (Photo 2)  Not a single item in the display cases.

FYI:  The frozen pizzas and dinners were also gone, but there were PLENTY of vegetables and fruits in the produce area.  Is this indicative of the typical American diet?

*********************

As mentioned in my New Year’s Penny Tale, Doc and I have/had two domestic and two international trips planned.  We had planned to travel in Australia for 24 days. Yesterday we cancelled the flights, lodging, and rental car for that trip.  It would require 14 days Quarantine upon landing there and then 14 days Quarantine upon returning to the U.S.  If caught avoiding the self-quarantine, it could mean a $50,000 AUS fine.   Even with the favorable currency exchange rate right now, that is a bit steep.  And I do Iove Doc, but 28 days locked in a room together is NOT my idea of a vacation.   LOL

*********************

You know me and Lists  LOL …. I Began a New List titled: “24 Projects to Tackle versus 24 Days in Australia”.  Within a few minutes there were 47 items on my list.  We won’t be bored during our STAYcation.

Just ASK

As many of you know, Doc had a knee replacement three days ago.  The surgery went well.  Recovery is proceeding as expected: pain, fever, lack of appetite, constipation, impatience …

Since Doc needs assistance 24/7 right now, it has been challenging to continue the daily Penny Finding.  (It is Day #553). This morning a neighbor offered to sit with Doc so I could run out to get him a pair of slippers and find today’s coin.

I was planning to go to Target (4 miles away), but was “nudged” to stop at the 7-11 store (2 miles away).  Upon pulling into the lot I said “Hi Angels!  Would you be so kind as to provide today’s penny rather quickly? I’d like to get back to Doc ASAP.” I parked the car and hopped out. Look what was right in front of me. A scattering of coins!! Many of you know my favorite number is 25.  Yup. There were 25 pennies there!  Is that COINcidence or what?

I walked into the 7-11 just for the fun of it.  There was ONE penny on the mat as I walked through the door.  I almost felt the Penny Angels saying, “This is the Penny YOU asked for and were expecting – THINK BIGGER!”

Driving to the Target Store I was talking to the Angels again … “So are you able to produce a pair of men’s slippers in the right size, low heeled, decent color, in a style which Doc would like, this far past Christmas?”  I searched at Target.  There were two fairly beaten up pairs and not in Doc’s size. OK Angels, I honestly didn’t expect to find any.  Thanks anyway.

I was “nudged” to walk to the department store next door.  I argued back. “It is pouring rain out here and I need to get back home because I asked the neighbor for just one hour of her time. There won’t be any slippers left anyhow.”  The angels said to try.

I walked in the store and asked for assistance.
Tina: “Where would men’s slippers be, and do you have any remaining?”
Sales Clerk: “By men’s underwear and I don’t believe we have any remaining”.
Tina:  “See angels. I told you it wasn’t worth getting wet for!”

I ran to the back of the store to prove how wrong the Angels were. There were probably 25-30 pairs of slippers there!  Perhaps eight of them were in Doc’s size and there were three different colors – all of which Doc would like!  Talk about manifesting!

No Place Like Home

As Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz would say: “There’s No Place Like Home,” and today I would add: “We are NOT in Canada any more”.

Doc and I recently spent three weeks in Canada.  Sure the food was great, there were numerous fun experience, and the scenery in the Rockies was incredible!  But as far as Penny Finding, the Canada terrain was BLEAK!  Canada discontinued pennies many years ago, plus most establishments now take cards versus cash.  Thus, wayward coins are quite rare.  It was a real challenge to find even one coin each day.

On average days Doc and I find 2-10 coins as we are conducting our normal activities.  I just found 38 coins at my only stop today. It’s exciting when a Coin Mine is found (12+ coins at one location).  So today the equivalent of three Coin Mines were found in that one spot.  Also on last Saturday 7/7,  I found 38 coins in a single stop.  Each of those days there was one quarter, three nickels, several dimes and LOTS of PENNIES!    LOL   That also means a Hit for the Cycle (P, N, D, Q) each of those days.

This sure beats the Coin Finding in Canada.
It’s good to be home!

Low Fruit

I had been working hard at home all day, so around 7 p.m. I decided it was time to get out of the house and get some fresh air.  Doc’s vehicle needed fuel so we went to the local gas station.

While Doc was fueling his van, I hopped out to look for a coin and take Dundee for a quick walk.  There was a penny practically under my foot as I stepped out of the van.  Done!  I told Doc we could leave since I had found my Penny for Day #324.

The car wash next to the gas station had closed for the day, so Dundee and I headed over there to do our respective duties.  I was thrilled to find a few pennies, then a nickel and a penny under a bench.  I checked the area carefully including the area around a hose bib.

When Doc was finished fuelling his car, he walked over to the car wash in order to log more steps on his pedometer.  I told him I had checked the area thoroughly and was ready to go home.  He had fun checking the area after me while I walked over to the convenience store and collected 2 pennies and 2 dimes in one parking spot!

I was sitting in the van impatiently waiting for Doc thinking: “OK Smarty Pants!  You are wasting MY TIME!  I have already searched the car wash areas.  I want to go home and get back to work.  I found pennies, a nickel and a few dimes.  I dare YOU to find the quarter for a Hit for the Cycle.”

As Doc got near the van he started talking: “So you carefully checked the car wash, right?  So you didn’t expect me to find any more coins, right?  What about these 12 coins?  I found them in various cracks and such.”  (Shown in left hand) That makes a Coin Mine which I overlooked!

Doc went on to say: “I thought you looked around the hose bib?  It appears you missed a few!  Looks like someone washed these 24 coins off for me and left them in a pile!”  Then, as Doc was bragging about all his finds, he looked down to see a quarter at his feet!

Doc quipped, “YOU were looking for the easy, low-growing fruit to pick; I was looking higher”.
Nice Lesson.

We made a brief stop at the grocery store where Doc found another quarter!  I guess he took it as a Double Dare to find that quarter!   LOL

Final coin count for today:    45 (P), 3 (N), 7 (D), 2 (Q)   57 Coins       Two Hits for the Cycle

In Abundance

This morning Doc and I went to several places – Starbucks, the grocery store, a gas station, a friend’s office, a walk through downtown Glendora, a restaurant and more.  Not a single coin was found.

At lunch the friend (D.O.) with whom we were dining, playfully/sarcastically said “Tina just has to ask and the Angels deliver coins for her”.  I thought that statement was a bit exaggerated.

Later this afternoon I needed to mail something at the local UPS store.  Tom, the owner is super nice and almost always asks me first thing, “how many coins have you found so far today?”  I KNEW he would ask today.  I could not say “Zero!”

There was a grocery store between where I parked and the UPS store.  I started talking to the Angels.  “Look I just need ONE penny to show Tom when I walk in there.  Would you please consider providing one in the next 2-3 minutes?”

I walked a few feet into the grocery store and noticed a few coins in the change return slot of a vending machine.  I grabbed the coins and continued walking.  “THANK YOU ANGELS”. That will do!

I kept my hand closed until I reached the UPS store where Tom and I could be surprised together.  Let’s see…  There are 11 pennies, 3 nickels, 9 dimes, and 5 quarters.  That makes 28 coins, for $2.41.  And there are THREE Hits for the Cycle in that pile!

The Angels delivered – in Abundance!

ASK and It Shall be Given Unto You.
