Background

In March 2008 I began Finding Pennies. In December 2008 I began sharing these "Penny Tales" with a few close friends. They encouraged me to blog the Penny Tales such that more people could enjoy the Adventures with Penny Angels.

Christmas Eve Coins

WOW!  Has it really been EIGHT months since I wrote the last Penny Tale?  It’s not that we haven’t found coins, I just haven’t made writing a priority.  It takes hours to post each Tale.

Back to today’s story….

It’s Christmas Eve, so I wondered what fun thing Doc and I could do.  In October, November, and December, Doc and I were somewhat busy.  We travelled to Idaho for two weeks to attend two funerals, then we both suffered through a case of COVID, then we dealt with my mom in the hospital, then I was down and out for a few weeks with oral surgery.  So it was time to do something FUN!!!!

I suggested to Doc that we go Penny Finding!  It has rained 6 inches here in the past 36 hours, so that seemed like somewhat of a ludicrous idea.  But heck, the local car wash would be closed today, so a great opportunity to search there.

At the car wash Doc and I both scoured the prep/vacuum area.  Not a single coin was found there.  How very disappointing.  Thus the dialogue began with the Penny Angels: “Hi Angels.  Wanna play today?  How about at least God’s 2¢ Worth as a minimum?”  Instantly I was shown a penny, then another, then another…   Doc pointed out a few coins as well.  In a matter of minutes we collected 27 Pennies, 2 Nickels and a Quarter as well as a little heart with gems in it!  Perhaps a reminder that God delivers the desires of our Heart?

Of course after laughing a bunch, I gave Thanks for the gifts and the playtime together.  But then I could not resist being a bit sassy.  “So Angels, you delivered far more than I was expecting.  Do you want another challenge?  In order to have a Hit For the Cycle you would need to deliver a dime.  Are you up for it?”

Next Doc and I went to the UPS store to mail a package.  Upon leaving Doc said “Let’s go next door to the grocery store to GET that Dime”.  Note that he did not say to “SEARCH FOR a dime.”  He said to “GET THAT DIME”.  We walked into the store and within a few seconds I spotted a bright shiny dime in the aisle right in front of me!   That was the ONLY coin we found in that store.

2020 Last Hurrah

To say that Penny Finding has been affected by the pandemic is an understatement.

·       There are Stay at Home edicts, so Doc and I have not been going out as much.

·       Other people are staying home, so there aren’t as many wayward coins

·       People are using plastic instead of coins for their purchases

·       There is a national coin shortage

This evening (New Year's Eve) Doc and I went to the grocery store for a few items.  I was not EVEN thinking of Penny Finding.  As we were checking out, I spotted a dime, then a nickel.  Then Doc spotted a dime.  Uggg … A sudden case of Penny Fever hit us.  It came on so totally unexpected!

Doc and I noticed the coffee shop had closed early for the night.  That left the drive up window vacant…  Score!  There was a quarter there!  So now we had nickel, dime (2) and quarter.  That makes three of the coins needed for a Hit for the Cycle.

Doc and I hopped in the car and began driving home.  Then we realized Doc still needed more steps to reach his 12,000 goal for the day.  Tina: “Doc, park the car.  Let’s do your steps here in the parking lot.”  We walked and walked, but found no pennies.  So I got a bit sassy with the Penny Angels.

Tina speaking out loud while walking: “Hi there Angels!  It’s been a while since we have played together.  It is generous of you to provide four silver coins tonight, but this is PENNY Tales, so I am requesting a PENNY Please.  So far we have 3 of the 4 coins needed for a Hit for the Cycle (HFC).  The last HFC was way back in September!  It would make for a great conclusion to 2020 to complete a HFC.  Please consider my request”.  Within moments there was a Penny in my path.  COINcidence?

Playful

Today was Day #5 of Doc’s knee surgery recovery.  We spent the entire day working his rehab procedures.  At 8 p.m. I realized I did not have today’s coin yet.  What to do? I settled Doc into his recliner, made him a cup of warm tea, had him swallow a Norco pill, and put the TV remote controller in his hand.  Then I headed out to the nearest grocery store.

Before his surgery, Doc mentioned that it would be nice to have some flowers around the house.  I grabbed a bunch of flowers at the store along with the bananas he requested. There was a penny at my feet as I was paying for those items.

I have this ongoing discussion with the Penny Angels that ONE penny in a day is a ‘fluke’.  Two pennies confirm that the coins are Heaven Sent.  That’s a sign of God’s Two Cents worth for the day.  I went to the second store (next door) to obtain fruit and a balloon (as far as anyone else knew), but really to seek a second penny.  I found a dime.  OK.  I’ll be satisfied with that.  Thank You angels.

The parking lot was darkand there was no one else around, so I began talking out loud to the Angels. “I realize coinage doesn’t mean much in heaven, but a dime does not equal a penny.  That is NOT God’s 2¢ worth for today.  Do you have anything to say about that?”  Within 2-3 seconds I saw something glisten.  I was laughing.  “Are you serious?  Is that a penny there?”  It was! “Well that was a quick reply.  Glad to see that you are listening tonight”  And instantly there was ANOTHER penny!  By then I was at my car.  It only took 40 minutes to get the groceries, flowers, a balloon and four coins.  Nice!

Reminder: The Angels are on duty at all times and they love to play!

Just ASK

As many of you know, Doc had a knee replacement three days ago.  The surgery went well.  Recovery is proceeding as expected: pain, fever, lack of appetite, constipation, impatience …

Since Doc needs assistance 24/7 right now, it has been challenging to continue the daily Penny Finding.  (It is Day #553). This morning a neighbor offered to sit with Doc so I could run out to get him a pair of slippers and find today’s coin.

I was planning to go to Target (4 miles away), but was “nudged” to stop at the 7-11 store (2 miles away).  Upon pulling into the lot I said “Hi Angels!  Would you be so kind as to provide today’s penny rather quickly? I’d like to get back to Doc ASAP.” I parked the car and hopped out. Look what was right in front of me. A scattering of coins!! Many of you know my favorite number is 25.  Yup. There were 25 pennies there!  Is that COINcidence or what?

I walked into the 7-11 just for the fun of it.  There was ONE penny on the mat as I walked through the door.  I almost felt the Penny Angels saying, “This is the Penny YOU asked for and were expecting – THINK BIGGER!”

Driving to the Target Store I was talking to the Angels again … “So are you able to produce a pair of men’s slippers in the right size, low heeled, decent color, in a style which Doc would like, this far past Christmas?”  I searched at Target.  There were two fairly beaten up pairs and not in Doc’s size. OK Angels, I honestly didn’t expect to find any.  Thanks anyway.

I was “nudged” to walk to the department store next door.  I argued back. “It is pouring rain out here and I need to get back home because I asked the neighbor for just one hour of her time. There won’t be any slippers left anyhow.”  The angels said to try.

I walked in the store and asked for assistance.
Tina: “Where would men’s slippers be, and do you have any remaining?”
Sales Clerk: “By men’s underwear and I don’t believe we have any remaining”.
Tina:  “See angels. I told you it wasn’t worth getting wet for!”

I ran to the back of the store to prove how wrong the Angels were. There were probably 25-30 pairs of slippers there!  Perhaps eight of them were in Doc’s size and there were three different colors – all of which Doc would like!  Talk about manifesting!

Look Here!

Two weeks ago Doc hurt his back and knees.  As a result, he has been using daily disposable heat wraps.  Today we went to purchase more of those.  I was not in the mood to be shopping, so I asked the Angels to get the job over with as quickly as possible.

Doc and I were going up and down the aisles in search of the product.  The aisles were 6 ft. high and long. There were hundreds of products on display.

Suddenly there it was!  A PENNY about 3 ft. off the floor and sitting atop the product for which we were searching!  How in the world does a penny get placed several feet off the floor and on the precise box we needed?  Perhaps an indicator from the Penny Angels saying “Look Here!”

Reminder:  Take the Angels along with you.  They Love to help as Your Personal Shopping Assistant.

Passing Forward

This morning I had numerous places to go before getting home for a 10:30 a.m. phone meeting. I took a friend to the airport, my sewing machine in for repair, etc.  At the final stop I said, “Hey Angels, are you listening up there?  Please provide a penny in the next few minutes because after that I am going home and will not leave the house for the rest of the day.

There were no coins in the parking lot or inside the first store.  At the 99¢ Store I was ready to pay for my one item when a lady with at least 100 items in her cart (it was literally overflowing) pulled in front of me.  That did NOT help my attitude.

Let’s see if I can create a picture for you…There was only one open check out lane and cashier.  Customer #1 was just completing her purchase.  Customer #2 had at least ¾ of a cart full of items.  Customer #3 as mentioned had an overflowing cart.

I was about to set down my one item and leave the store.  There was no way I was going to make it to my 10:30 appointment if I had to wait in that long line.  The cashier was beginning to scan the first item for Customer #2.  Customer #3 (in front of me) said to Customer #2,  “Wait!  Would you allow this lady to Pass in front of you?  She only has one item.”  I was amazed.  Not only had she offered to let me Pass in front of her, but she petitioned Customer #2 on my behalf as well!  Pretty bold move!

Customer #2 smiled and said, “Sure!”  I passed by the cart in front of me and then paused for a moment before proceeding to pass the next cart.  In those few seconds we three ladies were standing fairly close to each other and sandwiched between the two shopping carts.  I said something to the effect of “Thank You for your Act of Random Kindness, I’m sure it will come back to you”.  At that moment I looked down and there was today’s penny shining brightly between us!  COINcidence?

It was a JOY moment shared with two strangers.  Each of the ladies was given a Penny Card as a remembrance for participating in today’s Penny Find.  Such Fun.

New HFC Record

My nieces are here for a two-night sleepover.  We have about 34 waking hours to conquer everything on our “to do” lists.  When Ashley (age 14) was asked what SHE would like to do, her reply was, ”Whatever”.  Jamie (age 11) was determined to do two things FOR SURE – go to Rockin’ Jump trampoline park and go Penny Finding!

Uncle Doc and I picked up the girls yesterday precisely at 10 a.m.  One of the first stops was a sentimental visit to Chuck E Cheese’s where we used to take them when they were young.  Next a stop at Sprouts where each girl was given $10 to buy some snacks for the rest of the trip, then they “checked in” at the Penny Palace.  Uncle Doc took a nap, then it was off to 2+ hours at the trampoline park.  Don’t know how they could do some of those maneuvers – and to do it for hours!

Of course the girls were starving after all that exercise, so dinner was next, followed by the movie Anne of Green Gables.

A pretty nice haul yesterday:  9P, 3N, 4D, 5Q and 16 Chuck E Cheese tokens (worth 25¢ each).
That made three Hits for the Cycle on Day #1.

Hit for the Cycle = Penny, Nickel, Dime, Quarter

**********
This is Day #2 of our adventure.  Jamie asked what my record was for Hits for a Cycle in ONE day.  I told her “four”.  She said she was going to beat that today!

We went coin searching in the morning.  Found coins at the grocery store, car wash, 7-11, etc.  A total of 15 P, 4 N, 6 D, and 7 Q!   WOW!  That made FOUR Hits for the cycle.

This afternoon we did the Big City Scavenger Hunt in Riverside.  That was a neat experience.  We were looking for clues and for coins.

Jamie noted how we had enough pennies, dimes and quarters, but really needed some nickels.  I replied “Take a look at the sidewalks and gutters where people are hopping on and off buses.  Sure enough within 60 seconds we had a nickel in hand!  Manifesting at its finest!

This afternoon we collected 8 P, 1 N, and 2D.

That set a new record of FIVE Hits for the Cycle in One Day. (Just two more nickels would have made it seven HFC).

EIGHT Hits for the Cycle in two days!  Pretty Exciting!
