In March 2008 I began Finding Pennies. In December 2008 I began sharing these "Penny Tales" with a few close friends. They encouraged me to blog the Penny Tales such that more people could enjoy the Adventures with Penny Angels.

Day #204 - Double Fun

It’s always fun to stay overnight and wake up at the cabin; Double Fun when the twins are sleeping in the loft. Nicholas was up early and anxious to start his day. So he and Uncle Doc drove over to the Starbucks in Blue Jay. They first found a dime. Uncle Doc said it would be nice to find more. Nic advised Doc to ask the Penny Angels. A penny was delivered within moments. Two coins - Double Fun.

We all had breakfast at the cabin, finished off that frustrating balsa wood jeep puzzle, played table tennis in the lower level, and did a bunch of other fun things before we had to pack up and leave. We only had a 24-hr “Kid Rental” agreement: Friday 2 pm - Saturday 2 pm. Way too short to do all the fun things we wanted to.

***************

Going through Crestline we stopped at the 7-11. We found two pennies there

and Pam gave the kids Free slurpies! Double Fun! Then we stopped at the

Valero gas station. Each of us found a penny there. Double - Double. (Coins #5-8).

Numerous times we have driven past the Corky’s restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga and I have wanted to stop there; today we did. There was a penny just as we walked in (Coin #9). There was a glitch and our food order was excessively delayed. Debbie made things “all better” by offering us each a HUGE fresh-baked cookie. Double Fun (and Calories)! J I told her Doc would have one cookie, and I would forego mine to share Doc’s

cookie. To which Doc replied’ “In that case I will order TWO cookies, and THEN she can SHARE my order”. Quick thinking. J The kids were returned with 10 seconds to spare! We really maximized our “rental time”.

The gas tank in the van didn’t really need filling yet, but Doc was insisting upon stopping at a Shell gas station with a drive-through car wash. He hopped out of the van and immediately found a quarter! (Coin #10). I found 3 pennies over at the vacuum pump. (Coins #11-13). Doc then found another quarter at the entrance to the car wash - where I had just walked! (Coin #14). I found another penny by the air hose. (Coin #15).

Again, I wanted to go home. Doc insisted that we stop at another self-serve car wash. One penny in the dirt and another two in the wash bays. (Coins #16-18).

The McDonalds was within striking distance, so a quick walk past the window. Nothing there, but a penny at Arby’s - first coin ever found at that window. (Coin #19)

Finally we were heading home! I was grateful. We were in the left turn lane when Doc uttered, “I wonder if there are any coins in this rock divider. I don’t see any, but there is a bicycle seat! And a Penny!” I replied, “You are joking, right?” He answered by hopping out and quickly retrieving the penny. (Coin #20). I laughed and said, “What is your hurry? The light is still red.” He put the van into drive, advanced five feet and said, “There is another one!”.

Double Fun! He retrieved that penny (Coin #21) and was fastening his seat belt when the signal turned green. He may be a couch potato under normal conditions, but that man can Move when motivated! J This guy is no longer a Rookie - he is a Pro. This week he has “Hit for the Cycle, Found lots of silver, and performed a complex red-light Double Recovery acrobatic maneuver!

Life is more exciting when you are passionate about something.
