Background

In March 2008 I began Finding Pennies. In December 2008 I began sharing these "Penny Tales" with a few close friends. They encouraged me to blog the Penny Tales such that more people could enjoy the Adventures with Penny Angels.

What are the Odds?

After four days of “being” with our dying Chihuahua Sparky, it was time for Doc and I to “face the real world” again.  Neither one of us really wanted to go anywhere or deal with people or chores or do anything today.  I wanted to stay home and cry and heal.  (Even now I am bawling as I am writing this story).

Doc went to school to teach his afternoon class.  I had a 4:30 appointment which I almost cancelled because I did not want to emerge from the house.

At 6:15 p.m. Doc called to check in. He had found a quarter and a nickel!  Those are the two more difficult coins to find.   What are the Odds of that?

Doc suggested I find a Penny and a Dime in order to complete the Hit for the Cycle today.  I (not so politely) told him I did not care one bit about coin finding today!  I just wanted to go home and cry some more.  He suggested I make a brief stop at the grocery store to at least look for the Penny and the Dime.  He said if we would got a Hit for the Cycle today, it would be a confirmation to him of Sparky’s spiritual presence.  Crap!  Don’t lay that on me!  What are the Chances I am just going to waltz into the store and get those two coins for you?

The store was about 2 miles away.  In the few minutes I was driving there, I was praying fervently and loudly.  “PLEASE Angels.  It would mean so very much if you would provide Doc with those two coins.  His heart is breaking and he needs confirmation.”  “Sparky, if you can hear me, then Please, PLEASE, help get these coins for Papa to comfort him”.

I pulled into the parking lot for the grocery store.  There were zero cars at the Carl’s Jr. drive up window. What are the Odds of that?  That eating establishment usually has a line of cars.  And it was dinner time!  I was “nudged” to run that direction before going to the grocery store.  As I approached the widow I could see TWO coins.  One for sure was a penny.  Could not determine the denomination on the other coin until I picked it up.  Yes, it was a dime!  What are the Chances?  I grabbed it and headed back to my truck.  Looked back to see four cars pulling up to the window.  What are the Odds of getting those few seconds and exactly those two coins?

I was almost to my truck and saw our banker.  He asked how I was doing. I told him my heart was aching, yet also happy. I showed him the two coins and shared the story.
THAT is the core of Penny Finding – Learning, then Sharing.

I called Doc at school to tell him about the two coins.  His comment:  “Do you realize in all the years of Penny Finding, we have never found only and EXACTLY four coins to make a Hit for the Cycle?”   WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF THAT?

Sure….It’s merely COINcidence   ;-)
