This morning there was a light rain, then increasing showers throughout the day. The roofing crew and masonry crew were unable to work today due to the rain. I didn’t expect anyone to be at the Penny Palace, but I was wrong. The painters put in a full day.
This morning we were notified that the bank inspector would be on site today for this month’s inspection. Since we had never met this phantom, Doc and I looked forward to meeting him and said we would be there to unlock the gate at 11:30. Alex was great! He wants to study Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona where we teach.
I told Alex that so far he has seen the house grow from a concrete slab, to where it is today. But he can see only 50% of what comprises the Penny Palace. The other 50% is COINcidences and special stories. I shared with him a few highlights of the Penny Palace. He countered with several stories about HIS home. His were equally as amazing! What fun to share JOY like that. We showed him various components of the house including the dungeon which he had never seen.
It was rainy outside the house, but SUNNY inside! LOL Doc emerged from the garden bathroom exclaiming “There is a solar tube in there!” He was surprised. I was equally surprised saying, “There is? No way!” Doc replied, “Well, if you are surprised by it, then who ordered it?”
The rest of the story: Recently I mentioned to Doc that I really, really regret backing down when he said I could not have a fourth solar tube in the house. I should have argued more. Now that the roof is on and the HVAC unit is in the way, it would probably be too difficult and costly to install. He responded that yes, I probably should have done it if it meant that much to me.
So on the way home the next day, I stopped to speak with the solar tube guy. It was at closing time Friday. Nick said he had a busy Saturday, but he would visit on Sunday or Monday. Monday he checked out the ‘attic’ and said he would call me that afternoon with the price and scheduling plans. I did not hear back from him these past 4 days, so I assumed he was busy and would call me next week. So I was equally surprised when Doc discovered the installed solar tube!
Even though it was raining outside, it felt ‘sunny’ inside due to the light coming in.

Penny Finding? Right. Almost forgot about that.
Two pennies and a quarter at Starbucks (our first stop for the day). (Coins #1-3). This afternoon Doc had to run to the grocery store for the broccoli we plan to take to tomorrow’s Department Annual Potluck. Doc obtained a nickel and 3 pennies while there. (Coins #4-7)
Total: 7 Coins P (5), N (1), D (0), Q (1) = $0.35
